Long time Gone...
I know it's been a hot minute since I updated this, but it's been a very busy few weeks. I promise an update coming in just another day or two. <3

I call it PRIDE
...a deeper love.
The INTENTION with this blog is to update with not only regularity, but frequency. So in that vein, here's a small write-up, but only a week after my last post.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how popular my YouTube channel is! Lots of hits, lots of subscriptions.
September 8th's Wednesday Show featured some fun (slightly hoarse) tunes. I styled the wig I won from the In 'N' Out "Girls on the Go" audition, and now it's a super-cute sort of 40's brush-out look. It was a big hit. My setlist for the night:
Ladies' Night (the group number)
Hopelessly Devoted to You (lip-sync)
How Lovely to Be a Woman
Emotions (some hilariously lip-synced Mariah Carey)
I Will Follow Him (group)
Liza (a lip-sync to live Liza in French. a BIG HOT MESS, omg)
Blue
In the Mood (lip-synced Bette Midler)
Somewhere That's Green--and I gave myself a makeup black eye. Which was fun. But no dollahz. haha
Best of My Love (group closer)
I was super disappointed the black eye didn't get more ...reactions. There were chuckles, at least. But c'mon, a makeup black eye and a fur arm sling? I thought that would at LEAST get some pity money. Haha oh well. It WAS my last individual number, and those are never the big clean-up numbers--or really, numbers that make any money at all. haha
It was also a farewell party for a departing Queen named Sandy Shores. She didn't work at TC's, but brought a big farewell crew, and I think they had a good time. It was nice to give some people a nice send-off celebration. One of Tanya's friends (who was also Sandy's friend...? Maybe?) recorded a good chunk of the evening. I'm in the group video (but left out of the credits, sad face), but I've included the video featuring some of my individual performances. The hot mess Liza number is in there, where the nerves are VISIBLE on my face. But there's some good stuff in there, so I hope you enjoy the compilation.
Saturday, September 11th was Jenny Larue's fundraising carwash. Tanya and I came out to support her, all tarted up, and we raised a little bit of money. I worked the sign on the corner, which resulted in a nice light sunburn on my shoulders with an awkward tan line. haha but for a good cause. Also, to explain the title of this post, September 11th was Gay Pride in Savannah, GA. I missed everyone terrrrrrrribly. It would have been nice to go back and work as was the plan back in April, but I've spent all summer making unreturned phone calls and sending Emails without a reply. Oh well. I guess when I go back in October to visit, it'll only be a visit. I did send flowers though, so hopefully they enjoyed those. Hard to believe that only one year ago, I was in rehearsals for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, barely just thinking about trying to get an audition to join Club One's cast. It's been an eventful year for me. <3

Said the daddy tomato to the baby tomato...
Yes, I've been gone a little while. So it's time to Catch up (or 'Ketchup', if you're curious about the post title). When last I left you, I had just garnered myself my very first (and still only) $100 tip. The guy who gave it to me took me to the Miss Gay Texas USofA pageant that Friday (August 22), where three girls from work were competing. Ashleey Houston didn't make top twelve, Raven St. James did, but not top 5, and Adeciya Iman came in First Runner-Up (second place). Not bad, three competitors from the same bar.
The pageant was lovely. I finally saw TX celebqueens like Tommie Ross and Kourtney Paige van Wales (whose pictures do her no justice). It was also my first big pageant like that, and seeing the reactions to... certain things makes me nervous about my performance should I ever choose to enter one. It certainly favored the ridiculously over-the-top, I'll say that. But hey, it's Texas.
August 25th was a work night, and I busted out a LOT of drag tricks... but mostly just a lot of fake hair. Oh, and a see-through dress. I performed:
CandyMan
California Girls (lip-synced and with real candy!)
Blow, Gabriel, Blow
Defying Gravity (again, lip-synced to the Kerry Ellis "Wicked in Rock" cover version)
Broken Wing
I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine (lip-synced)
Sin Wagon
Alone
If that seems like a lot of songs IT IS. Instead of our usual long 3-hour show, Tanya wanted to do a long[er] show based on the number of songs we performed. So three hours became 4.5 as we all did EIGHT SONGS. I had chosen all big belt numbers, maybe you noticed, so I was not prepared for two extra numbers, but it was ok. "Alone" was a little strained, but no one was still there anyway--well, no one sober enough to really care, I think. Still a good time. Pics on Facebook. :)
August 28th found me at In 'N' Out for the "Girls on the Go" new traveling Drag Troupe auditions. I was pretty certain I was making the cut regardless, but we still need to audition, of course. Alongside me for the night was Amber LeMay Fox, Ebony State, and Erica Champagne. And at the last minute, a queen we didn't know arrived, Ms. Michelle ... uh... Michelle... Michaels? ...not sure. Anyway, Diane Jackson opened the show for us (after a last-minute group number was added). Judges Sherry-Lynne, Alexandria, Tanya, and Travis (from In 'N' Out) scored us based on... I'm not sure, very specific criteria. :/ We had to do one fast and one slow song, so I chose "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "Maybe This Time". The bar was HOT, but the staging was nice, and I sort of re-met John the bartender who was a little past tipsy. But the show was fun. We ended up ranking, and I won third place, which got me a new wig, some lashes, and a photoshoot with local ...uh, "mentor" Vanity Wilde. Very exciting!
September! Ok, well the day before September. Amber has her car back so we finally got to go out shopping again (yaaaaay). The Wednesday night show was lined up on September 1st, so we kicked it off with our new group numbers for the month. I'm going to add an Asterisk (*) before the group numbers in this lineup. I/we performed:
*Ladies' Night (an Atomic Kitten cover which we staged as a sleepover, all wearing nightgowns and negligés. It was fun!)
Taylor, the Latté Boy (lip-synced to Kristen Chenoweth's adorable version)
The Way of Love
River Deep, Mountain High
*I Will Follow Him (from Sister Act)
Crazy
Cabaret
I'm Going Bananas (lip-synced to the Madonna song)
Maybe This Time
Find Your Grail (this was another 'after hours' song, as I'm calling them now, when we go past 11p. I lip-synced this Monty Python tune just for laughs, but the audience seemed to enjoy it)
*Best of my Love (the classic by The Emotions)
...and Adrian was there recording! So he posted them on his YouTube, which is sort of TC's YouTube.
........and I decided I should finally have a one-stop Violet shop on YouTube. So I made my very own channel!! Mom didn't have the camera for the shows this week BUT you can see some of what I did and wore by watching me IN MOTION! Check out the channel. Looking forward to your feedback, and hoping it's all positive. <3

Life, oh the ups and downs
Wellll time again for some recap action; two weeks since my last post:
With a new month comes new show songs, and August has us now doing THREE group numbers. I suppose it's good to be able to fill the time with something certain and constant, but I haven't made the same in tips (since I'm essentially losing tips for at least one song). Of course the money isn't all that's important, but with my bills and uncertainties right now about...a lot of things, it certainly helps. Besides, whether or not the audience gets tired of the group stuff, it is hard to do all of the quick changes--especially when your hair doesn't come off backstage haha. So we now open and close with "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge and "I'm Every Woman" by Chaka Khan, keeping "YMCA" as a song we do in the middle (and that's where the quick costume stuff is getting to be an issue). The songs I performed solo on August 4th:
Mamma Mia
Maybe This Time
I'm Going Bananas (the lip-sync)
Midnight Train to Georgia
A Little Brains, A Little Talent (lip-synced)
Alone
On August 8th, I got to perform for a Charity thing over at In 'N' Out. Sadly, the boyfriend of one of the bartenders had killed himself and so we had kind of a charity thing for him and his expenses and to really just make him feel supported and loved. I didn't know him beforehand, but I couldn't resist helping it. It was hard to meet someone under those circumstances, but it was nice to meet him. Jenny, Amber, and I were the whole Drag portion of the evening, and only performed three songs each. Their mic system was ...not the best, so I had to pull an old-school Broadway and sing from the diaphragm, unsupported. What I chose:
Good Morning, Baltimore
10,432 Sheep (lip-synced from Audra McDonald, a favorite song of mine)
Part of Your World
(I tried to pick songs I thought would be crowd-pleasers and big money-makers. Eh, I was partially right. I think part of it was the silent auction happening, which drew a lot of the money people had brought, so no worries there)
Work on the 11th brought some MAGIC. I was a little off my game that night, due to both a stuffy nose and a special audience member. But at least mom was finally back in town and coming to the shows! In addition to the three group numbers, I performed:
Part of Your World
Rehab (the big hot mess comedy lip-sync)
Goodbye, Earl
Like We Never Loved At All (with the hand puppet, of course)
Don't Rain on My Parade--although I had planned on Dream a Little Dream of Me, but it wouldn't play in the CD player. :(
*10,432 Sheep (again, Audra McDonald)
Immediately following the show was Ashleey Houston's benefit, which was lovely...in many ways. All of the tips went to Ashley, and even though I had planned to do it, she asked for me to do "Rehab" 'cause she hadn't seen it before. :) So I did:
Don't Cry Out Loud
Rehab (even hotter and messier than before)
...and the CROWNING GLORY of the whole evening: The short version is that a guy came up to the bar and tipped me to make sure the money went to my pocket (I'm sure he had tipped Ashley also). He was 'buying me a drink' and when I unfolded the bill it was a BENJAMIN. Hoooooly Jesus. What else can I say to that? My first $100 Bill. Maybe I'm going places, after all. ;)
P.S. I'm totally wearing glitter, like, every day I work now. Haha it's an addiction I don't want to break, so I won't bother trying. :P

Googoo for Gaga...
Welllllllllllll readers, it's time again to update the Blog posting with performances and pictures...and a surprise video!
On July 21st...
In the Mood (the Bette Midler song from a few weeks ago)
Part of Your World
Like We Never Loved at All (with the hand!)
Never Been to Me
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (a tribute to my lovely Detox)
...I picked up a gorgeous dress from Diane (which I wore this week in the video you'll see below), and had my first trip to Muffin Man. Okra. So good.
And we're already caught up to this week, where I performed in two shows and a party. Tuesday I spent a good chunk of the day shopping with the Humpday Honeys. Clothing stores are danerous... I got SO MANY THINGS. But they were all cheap resale shops. We had a wonderful time! And we'll be doing it every week.
On July 28th, my usual Wednesday work night, I got to wear some of my new clothes:
Downtown
Speechless (Hair Bow debut, look below!)
Colors of the Wind
Cold Day in July
The Way of Love
There Are Worse Things I Could Do
I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine
And on Saturday night, I went out for Laisha Larue's Birthday party at the club:
I'm Going Bananas (a CUUUUTE old Madonna number)
Good Morning Baltimore (I gave Laisha my CD and asked her what she wanted me to sing. :) )
Speechless
...and then cameo'd with Speechless again in the usual Saturday night show. The pic is from the first time I did the number, and the video is from when I repeated it as my cameo--in case any of you notice that my hair is slightly different. <3
And here's a surprise video recorded by a friend, Michael Soto... when I was in the second show. Laptop users will have an advantge here...but yes, Hair Bow in action!!
P.S. See, I do lip-sync sometimes. When necessary. ;)

Let's play catch-up...
Whoo! Lots of goings-on over here. Some I can't talk about, some I WON'T talk about (don't wanna jinx it), but here's what I both can and will mention... ;) :
We're coming up on my third Wednesday now at TC's. I'm having a blast! I always think it's funny when people don't catch on that I'm singing, and even an hour or two into the show go "is she singing?". :)
My setlist that first week was really fun, because I got to work on Friday, too! Forgot to mention that. Diane Jackson was out (but is back and better than ever now), so I filled her spot on the weekend. Lots of people sang along that night, too... that's a first for me.
On Friday, July 9th, there were a lot of repeats from Wednesday, naturally:
Good Morning, Baltimore
Stars and the Moon
In the Mood (a live version of the Better Midler song, lip-synced)
Don't Cry Out Loud
And on this past Wednesday, July 14th, I did:
Cabaret
Maybe This Time
Don't Rain on My Parade
Crazy
A Wonderful Guy
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Somewhere that's Green.
And I bought a HILARIOUS/AMAZING platinum blonde wig from Diane. I'll leave you with a picture of that. Any resemblance to Paris Hilton/Donatella Versace/Playboy Bunnies/Gold-Digger Barbie/etc. are accidental but amazing.
As for the coming week, I might get to go shopping on Harwin with some of the girls from work, and I've got some good stuff planned for Wednesday. At least, I hope it goes over well. ;) Come out and see the show, FREE with super-cheap drinks. 8-11p, don't forget!

I am now a Checkerboard Ch-I mean, Humpday Honey!!
Last night was my verrrrry first [hired and official] performance at TC's here in Houston. I had a wonderful time ...and a loooot of fun with my HAIR. I saw some familiar faces, which is always a delight, and met some new people (also, always a delight).
For the night I performed (in order):
Good Morning, Baltimore
Stars and the Moon
Blue
Don't Cry Out Loud
Broken Wing
Somewhere That's Green
and our finale, YMCA.
GURL, three hours of singing. Haha thankfully I didn't pick songs that took too much out of me (on purpose), but I was definitely exhausted by the show's end. But I was invited to go out with Alanna and the girls, so I went with my friend K-aos and had a marvelous time at Bayou City. It's nice to know people... that's all I'll say. Haha anyway, I got home around 3 or 4 after hitting Jack in the Box with K-aos. I slept ALL DAY. Definitely going to have to get my stamina up for this three-hour-show/nightlife situation I've gotten myself into.
Tonight is the Ms. South Beach pageant! 10p... and I'm sure there will be PLENTY of pictures, so I'll close with one from Bayou City last night. And keep in mind, this is like 2a after putting on my face around 5p. Nine hours is a LONG time to wear makeup, let alone the mask of it that we drag queens do. This is my "new" friend Angel...

How very unexpected...
...and yet, if you know me, not really. Anyway, rediscovered this song on my YouTube Favorites. There's a LOT in there, and some of my favorites have already gone offline (goodbye, "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" with the amazing dress).
So enjoy? "Unexpected Song" as sung by Bernadette Peters

Hair Cravings: NETTED BUNS
...or whatever I should call them. But really, I have loved this look for a loooooong time...with the right setup, at least. Be they smoothed piece or spiral topper, I love the retro look of net over hair. Here are some spiral examples from Italian Vogue:
And online:
And in the other camp, here are smoothed buns, easy to just pin in and go, I'd imagine:
LOVE the use of color on those last 3. :) But those kinds of buns are so hard to find!!
Anyway, in trying to keep up with semi-regular posts on this thing, I thought I'd stick with my current theme and share a little bit of the pictures in the many folders of research on my computer. So that's what's on my mind tonight!

So far at TC's...
Hey all!
This Blogging thing is new so I have to keep up. Here in Houston, there's not much Drag (I'm told), and what there is is dwindling, as many people have lost the drive to try it (again, so I'm told). But I've sung now a few times at a charming bar called T.C.'s over in the main Montrose hot spot. For those not in Houston, Montrose is our ...Gayborhood. Not very big, but it's there. And a good chunk of the bars and clubs geared toward us are there as well, surrounded closely by like-minded shops and restaurants.
So I've sung at this joint, and while I'd recommend it (especially if I'm there ;) ), I thought it'd be best to keep up with my song list, again.
So, in reverse chronological order:
Drag-Off, Monday June 21st:
Featuring 18 Contestants performing for 3.5 hours, each vying for a spot on the regular TC's cast, this was a show, indeed. I was Contestant #12. With Sunflowers in my hair and a nervous spring in my step, I showed "How Lovely to Be a Woman" it is to an audience of... well, a lot of women. So I guess a lot of them knew, but enjoyed the number all the same, it seems. Then I sang my Heart out, all "Alone", which went over surprisingly well. Not that I don't enjoy the number, there were just some people who seemed very into it that I would not usually suspect to be into a song like that. Got my first tip of CHANGE. Haha someone gave me $2.50, very neatly presented. Very strange.
Following that, I cameo'd in the Open Mic night, which some may recall I won last week. I brought out Amy Winehouse and Lip-sync'd a Hot Mess number to "Rehab". Always fun, and got a lot of laughs--though I'm especially glad Rachel and Bret enjoyed it. I knew my mom would :) Closing my set (and the show, if I remember correctly?), I sang "Good Morning, Baltimore". I had never really realized before how great of a song that is for the Gays. I mean, it's about rejection, a desire to be accepted, and a yearn to be a star. How could I not have put THAT one together earlier? Haha a few people in the crowd said I should have used that set in the Competition, and perhaps they were right. I was just nervous about those songs being chosen by other Competitors. Oh well.
Wednesday, June 16, 2010:
My prize for winning Monday's "Open Mic" was the opportunity to appear alongside the usual cast on Wednesday night. I had a wonderful time with my friend Kate and met even more lovely people after my set, including Marcia Mink, who began to educate me on the International Imperial Court System of the United States (and Canada). Fascinating. I didn't know the crowd well going in, so I picked songs I thought were sure to be easy hits--or at least not confrontational misses. I apparently chose correctly, because Tanya Hyde gave me a lovely write up review for my "Part of Your World" (which was VERY shaky with my newly rediscovered nerves)--and people are still talking about it...in a good way. I also brought out Spex's favorite friend, the Unnnamed Hand Puppet--or Unnamed Hand Cowboy?--for my fun Lip-sync of the Faith Hill/Tim McGraw duet "Like We Never Loved at All". I had a blast, and I'm really hoping I perform more at this bar.
Monday, June 14, 2010:
Violet's Houston Debut! I gussied myself up and sang "Maybe This Time", which unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately?) played through with a couple of second-long pauses in the tune. Sure it cracked the mood, but it made it almost painfully clear that I was singing live, and allowed me to, in signature Violet style, poke fun at the lyrics, adding after "All the odds are in my favor", a joking "...maybe not". Which went over very well, so I suppose it was a good thing. :) I didn't realize I would do more than one song (or that I would be the only contestant), so it's a good thing my CD had four numbers. The only other girl working that night was host Jenny LaRue, so I also performed "Somewhere That's Green" and "Never Been to Me", though without any costume changes. But my friends Rachel, Bret, and Stuart all got to come see the show, so that was lovely. Now that my mom is going to be a regular audience member here in Houston, I do enjoy when people come to sit with her.

Longtime Yearning...
This is a dress I've had saved on my computer for a while. It was on a vintage site, and I think the dress was from 1953? or so. I wish I could find one like it. I think it would be AMAZING to wear something to visually striking, and then Oscar de la Renta showed similar sorts of graphic skirts a season or two ago.
How amazing would that be? I would love it with patent accessories in a pop of cobalt blue or even bright sunshine yellow. Or of course, any color. Kelly Green and Watermelon Pink are always fun bets, as is the inimitable Lipstick Red.
Wouldn't that be fun? Not that I'm a slave to labels, they were just the best "basic" shoes for the colors I could find. Google Images needs a makeover.
Anyway, now that I have the BLOG, I figure I could do a little series of these sorts of lusts of mine. A wishlist, if you will. And since my entire existence is pretty much a form of Fantasy, why not continue living as if it's all a wonderful dream? Like "Sex and the City" Fantasy Fashion... but in my head. <3

Backlog...
So here is the Info tab from my Facebook group. I was very good for a while there keeping up with my songlists. But I fell out of practice with my final months at college (which kept me far too busy to keep anything in my life organized), so I'm posting what I have. If somehow I magically remember what songs I sang when, I'll fill them in. But as is, I can only remember my St. Patrick's day setlist--or at least, part of it--so I imagine that won't happen. :) Anyway, enjoy:
1.15.2010:
Big weekend! This special last-minute Friday show fill-in featured recent repeats: "Part of Your World" and "Midnight Train to Georgia" in the 10:30p show. The 12:30a show featured the surprisingly well-received "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
1.14.2010:
After helping Savannah Arts Academy with their Tuesday night Junk2Funk Fashion show, a rather slow week led up to tonight's choices: "Blow Gabriel, Blow" (making its downstairs debut) and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
1.7.2010:
Ah, back to the old familiar routine. This week, we brought out some feel-good songs to counteract a very unsettling Thursday afternoon. "Midnight Train to Georgia" opened the show, and everyone loved to sing along with song #2: the Disney classic "Part of Your World".
12.31.2009-1.1.2010:
New Year's Eve Masquerade! Even though I was nursing a sore throat and had been up far too long, I went for big Broadway bursting into the new year. "Don't Rain on My Parade" happened in our last show of 2009, and after the Countdown, I christened 2010 with a very tired-voice rendition of "Blow Gabriel, Blow" from the musical "Anything Goes".
12.20.2009:
Last-minute filling in!! FOUR songs in Violet's first Sunday Night appearance!! Two classics and two holiday specials, one for each show. First up: "Maybe This Time" and "All I Want for Christmas is You". For show #2, "How Lovely to Be a Woman" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".
12.17.2009:
I looooove Chriiiiistmaaaaaaas!!!!! Tonight featured Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" in a scandalous Santa onesie, followed by a revisit of the Christmas Charity Gala's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Holiday Festivities well-received by all!! <3
12.10.2009:
Just one song this week! Club One had their annual (GORGEOUS) Charity Christmas Gala, featuring the full Cabaret and The Lady Chablis on the main stage upstairs. Violet OPENED THE SHOW of all Christmas classics with the old favorite "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". So nerve-racking, but wonderful!!
12.3.2009:
It was a BIG night. In possibly one of her best shows, Violet performed big belty songs. First up was Christina Aguilera's "Candyman" (in a very short outfit), followed by Barbra Streisand's "Don't Rain on My Parade". Also, fans will notice there have been a few weeks when I accidentally planned songs featured the previous night on "Glee"? Well THIS time, Glee was a week behind ME, since that same song (the Broadway ballad) was on their finale!! SO HAPPY to be ahead of the curve.
11.26.2009:
Thanksgiviiiiiiiiing!!!! A drowsy, stuffy, well-stuffed Violet does "Pilgrim Fish" (as Jazzmyn called it) for a cover of Neil Diamond's "America", following it up with some Pocahontas attire for "Colors of the Wind". Get it? Pilgrim and Native? Thanksgiving? Yeah, it was hilarious.
11.19.2009:
Finals are OVER!!!!!! A very relieved and excited Violet (finally feeling better) busts out Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". Afterwards, she slowed it down with Bette Midler's "The Rose", which is apparently one of Cale's favorite songs. What luck! :)
11.12.2009:
Violet started her set with "Good Morning, Baltimore" from the Broadway "Hairspray" to a pretty receptive, cheerful audience--many in the throes of finals. "Next up was another cheerful tune: "Super Trouper" by Abba... intended to be a sing-along, but no one was feeling the chorus-y spirit. Oh well. :)
11.5.2009:
COUNTRY NIGHT: Violet opened with LeAnn Rimes' "Blue" to show off her new birthday earrings from Destiny Myklz, and followed it up with some TWANGY Dixie Chicks impersonation for "Goodbye Earl". So nasal, so gruff, so funny. So good.
11.2.2009:
Clips from Violet's opening night performances are uploaded by TJ and tagged. Exciting! Hope they're a pleasant trip down memory lane. Special audio guest-star by the bartender in the background. :)
10.29.2009:
A slightly-stuffy but Hallowe'en festive Violet quietly puts out Queen's "Somebody to Love", unfortunately without vampire teeth and pictures of classic Hollywood ghouls, followed by "Unchained Melody" for recently, dearly departed Patrick Swayze. For Hallowe'en goodness, the plan was to have play-dough and mimic the pottery wheel scene, but time constraint and late supplies=no dice. Still, the performances were RECORDED, so those will be fun to watch played back, I hope.
10.24.2009:
SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AT THE GENDER BENDER BALL, quite possibly the birthplace of yours truly... or at least an important step on the way to the events leading to my birth.. or something!!! Violet arrives a LITTLE later than planned, but with plenty of time before her number, that old staple of hers (and very appropriate for the party), "How Lovely to Be a Woman". A flattered Violet happily accommodates the audience's request for an encore... and on the same CD from Friday's upstairs debut two weeks before, finds "Maybe This Time", pointing out that she did NOT get it from Glee, but has actually seen the movie "Cabaret". After four entire consecutive, proud years, the crown of Queen finally passes on to someone from the next generation of SCAD.
10.22:2009:
Busting out another old favorite, Violet sings Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud" in a kicky LITTLE knit number, following the performance with "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" from Grease to show off her new booties. It was a sassy week, indeed, but very very fun.
10.15.2009:
Repeating Friday's new song, "Maybe This Time" was well-received by the downstairs group as well. Somewhat unfortunately, the choice of Heart's "Alone" lined up with Kristen Chenoweth's "Glee" set from that week's show, which aired just the night before. Oops, guess great minds think alike?
10.9.2009:
Violet's mainstage debut!! Revisits of "How Lovely to Be a Woman" and "Stand By Your Man" worked well with the 10:30p show crowd, which included some familiar fan club friends, and a few friends I didn't expect to see! Lovely surprise. The 12:30a show brought the new song for the week: "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret (a longtime favorite of mine). New friends, hopefully new fans, and new confidence. What a lovely weekend. :)
10.8.2008:
Though not TECHNICALLY Violet's birthday (it was her identical twin brother's, but not hers... don't read too much into that), there was a HUGE turnout of the Violet fan club for last night's barely-performed "La Vie en Rose" in the original Edith Piaf French, and the slightly-sick-husky "Le Jazz Hot" from one of her all-time favorite movies, Victor/Victoria. Many dollars, many friends, and much much love. AND VIOLET'S FIRST $20 TIP!!!!!
10.1.2009:
Violet does Disney! A very receptive audience of drunk newbies sways along to "Part of Your World," along with an abbreviated section of the Violet fan club, and then it's a trip down memory lane for Violet's revisiting of her debut song from L.A.: Martina McBride's "Broken Wing".
9. 24. 2009: Violet takes a night off, but keeps the gals company upstairs at the Miss Gay Savannah Pageant. Maybe she'll enter the next one, coming in March. :)
9.17.2009:
Fresh from performing in the opening night of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", Violet hops downstairs to hold a 60's singalong with Petula Clark's "Downtown". For song number two, it's "Stand By Your Man"--hopefully a fitting message for a gay bar. Much love to and from the audience--and Violet's first $5 bill tip!
9.16.2009:
Group Membership reaches 69! **teehee**
9.10.2009:
Violet sings "How Lovely to be a Woman" and "All By Myself" at Club One to a house quasi-packed with friends and strangers, receiving a heart-warming round of applause to welcome her into the bosom of Club One's cast of characters.
